A LOOK BACK AT THE ILLINOIS CENTRAL And Other Midwestern Railroads DVD

The entire program was shot on 8mm film by Gordon Sandstrom between 1959 and 1975. We begin with a brief look at the final days of steam in the IC then move around the system at locations including Markham, Kensington, Riverdale, Springfield, Homewood, Flossmoor, Woodcrest, Freeport, Stony Island Avenue and more. Run-bys of freight and passenger trains powered by a variety of diesel and electric power (indluding "The Panama Limited", "The Magnolia Star", "The City of New Orleans", "The James Witcomb Riley", "Land-O-Corn", "The Green Diamond" and "The Inaianapolis Special" are seen. The balance of the program was shot at State Line Tower, Juliet Union Station and the "Open House" at EMD in La Grange featuring trains of the Erie-Lackawann, Monon, Wabash, C&O, Nickle Plate, Rock Island, Santa Fe, GM&O, CSS&SBRR, PRR and the Milwaukee Road.
