Starting from scratch in the 1970s, Atlanta built a heavy rail system for a big, post war city. This translates into long distances between stations and a great deal of quick running. Some of the system uses existing railroad rights-of-way, and some is new. There is one major tunnel through the central business district, but most of the rest is above ground for an interesting ride. There is little traditional above street elevated. There are two lines and this program covers both of them. We begin on the East Line, the first line to be built. Then the line from the airport to Doraville. Historical information outlining the various segments and when they opened is also included. The program does not cover the branches to Proctor Creek nor Dunwoody, although segments of the Dunwoody line are shown.
