VIGNETTES of the Lehigh Valley, Volume 1 DVD

The Lehigh Valley Railroad stretched from New York City to the important railroad Gateway City of Buffalo, NY. The LV not only provided a vital link to the east for midwestern roads such as the Nickel Plate and Wabash, but also tapped the rich anthracite coalfields of Pennsylvania in the process.

Pennsylvania and New York locations visited in Volume One of Vignettes of the Lehigh Valley include Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, Lehighton, Van Etten Jct., Rochester Jct., and Niagara Jct.

The Lehigh Valley of the 1970's was reknown for the varied and colorful paint schemes on its fleet of Alco, EMD, and GE locomotives, and few railroads could offer the variety of motive power that "The Valley" did. Locomotives featured include F-units, Geeps, RS-3's, SW-8's, GP-38's, U23B's, C-420's, C-628's, and a brief look at the Delaware and Hudson's Sharks used between Binghamton and Sayre.

Father-and-son Lehigh Valley employees Charles and Kenneth Bealer teamed up to record their favorite railroad on film from 1970 until its 1976 inclusion into Conrail, and their work is showcased in Volume One of Vignettes of the Lehigh Valley.
